Libbing Out 2: Libageddon

blue, red, and black paper cutouts

Yesterday was an unexpectedly good day. Unexpectedly, yes, even though the polls told us it would happen. Fifty-four senate seats (and counting): well more than the conventional wisdom (or I) even thought.

A mea culpa here. If you are one of the three people who read my predictions post, I vehemently argued that there was no way for the Democrats to take the U.S. Senate. Where do I go wrong?

Well, for starters, I did not expect that the president would be fucking stupid enough to start a war in the Middle East for no reason whatsoever. Not just in the Middle East, but against Iran of all countries, which controls a major water throughway. Who would be stupid enough to do that? Any idiot would be told by any other idiot that it would lead to a massive increase in the price of oil and other commodities, while accomplishing absolutely nothing.

Presidents don’t get a “oil prices go down” button, but we’ve learned that presidents sure do get a “oil prices go up” button, and this moron actually pressed it!

So, yeah, I didn’t expect a new forever war this year. Is that the difference between 49 seats and 54 (and counting)? Maybe. But also nothing else got better. And Democrats really did hit it out of the park with regard to candidate quality. For example, good thing Democrats shoved Haley Stevens into the trash bin of history.

Hopefully none of these new senators and representatives turn out to be regrettable pieces of shit. You know some might, since they always seem to. But maybe not this time. One can hope.
