WSJ reports that President Trump is going to give TikTok another extension to get their shit together make a effort to be legal:
President Trump is planning to give TikTok another lifeline.
With a mid-June deadline approaching and trade talks with China in limbo, Trump is expected to sign an executive order staving off enforcement of a law banning or forcing the sale of the app, according to people familiar with his plan.
It would be the third extension since Trump took office in January. The current one expires June 19.
Just a note that this, once again, is totally illegal. There’s nothing in the law that says that TikTok can even have an extension, forget about multiple ones. The app is supposed to be banned in the USA. It, legally, is supposed to have been banned for months.
Well, at least the WSJ writeup notes that briefly at the very end:
Some Republicans have criticized Trump for ignoring the law passed by Congress with bipartisan support and upheld by the Supreme Court. But the Republican-controlled Congress hasn’t shown interest in blocking Trump’s actions.
“We’re already well past any legal authority for the president to decline to execute this law. This is a pretty clear case” said Gregg Nunziata, executive director of the Society for the Rule of Law and former counsel to Senate Republicans.
