While I was in Ohio over the weekend, my brother showed us this YouTube video of Ohio State’s very own flash mob, which took place a few weeks ago. He’s a sophomore there and happened to be walking through the (new, gorgeous) student union at the time, when all of a sudden: choreographed dance routine to music from Glee! My brother turned to the girl next to him to ask what was going on, and she expressed similar bafflement but then jumped up to join in a few minutes later.
Look, I know it’s kind of cheesy, and I’ve never been all that rah-rah school pride go Bucks beat M*ch*g*an etc about OSU, including when I was a student there. But this video makes me smile a lot and even feel a bit nostalgic. I think the flash mob phenomenon in general is pretty great: how often do we get to experience these unexpected breakouts of joy? I love the concept of people getting together to make up a dance routine like this, and I love the idea of walking through a public place and being surprised by a sudden outburst of spirited dancing.
If that’s not enough to love, tomorrow is already Friday! Yes!
