Pelosi retiring
The last time Congress increased the federal minimum wage, Rep. Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House of Representatives. You may not be surprised if you think the minimum wage was increased recently, but this was back in 2007, when Democrats retook the House in the midst of President George W. Bush’s disastrous second term. Yesterday, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost the Republican primary in his district in Virginia. It’s the first time since 1899 that a sitting House majority leader lost reelection, and probably the firs time ever it was because of a primary.
