Back in the V+V hey day, we had a one-year tradition of throwing out some candidates for Official V+V Summer Jam™. Now that we’re clear of Memorial Day, and Wahurd is turning 34 this week (lol), seems time to dive back in and see what a. what the new hot summertime jams are, and b. if they’re any good. Here’s the first candidate, “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea (featuring Charli XCX). Pretty minimalist beat, but it’s catchy: Our second candidate of this installment comes from the the Black Keys. Their new single “Fever” off their actually-kind-of-boring new record...

Spotify is a pretty decent service. For free, you can listen to practically anything that’s ever been released commercially (sadly, no RVIVR, but that’s on them because they’re UP THE PUNX), as long as you’re willing to listen to some ads once in a while. And I’m not against listening to ads once in a while. The problem is, for a tech company with so much data, they use it horribly. Or they don’t use it at all. You’ll be listening to a sweet Biber partita, and get thrown a massively loud advertisement for ADVANCED AUTO PARTS. Listening to...

If you’re one of the three people who reads this here premier “web log,” you may have once checked out the New York Times op-ed page. You might even recognize the names of the columnists, who every day spout the most conventionally wise of the conventional wisdom. This is a feature that is dedicated to these folks, highlighting one line that is either funny, ridiculous, strange, or actually intelligent or well-written. Today’s is from David Brooks, who in his column today, “The Leadership Emotions,” writes: This kind of leader is warm-blooded and leads with full humanity. So,...

Ladies and gentlemen, the former U.S. secretary of defense: “I have sent in our federal income tax and our gift tax returns for 2013,” Rumsfeld wrote. “As in prior years, it is important for you to know that I have absolutely no idea whether our tax returns and our tax payments are accurate.” …. “The tax code is so complex and the forms are so complicated, that I know I cannot have any confidence that I know what is being requested and therefore I cannot and do not know, and I suspect a great many Americans cannot...

Since I bought it a million years ago, my copy of The Misfit’s Static Age always had a weird skip on the first guitar strum of “Last Caress.” I listened the hell out of that CD for years, and it eventually found its way ripped to MP3s on each computer I’ve had since then (don’t even ask how I still have all my late-90s MP3s, but have exactly zero papers I wrote in college, including my thesis, in electronic format). So. it just came on my Pandora station, but the opening riff was actually correct, and it...
