Morning Constitutional – Monday 25 October 2010
Good morning! Matt Damon and Celine Dion both had babies over the weekend; what did you do? Here’s your Morning Constitutional:
Afghan President Hamid Karzai has admitted that his office has accepted money from Iran, and has said that he will continue to receive the money– which he says is no more than $1 million, twice a year.
There have now been over 250 deaths due to cholera in Haiti (and 3,000 cases of infection), but health officials say the outbreak may be slowing down.
Thought the November elections were all but decided? Think again– according to a new AP-GfK poll, one-third of likely voters haven’t decided who to vote for. But unfortunately for the Dems, these undecided voters tend to favor the Republican candidates.
Jumping onto Dan Savage’s “It Gets Better” bandwagon, President Obama recorded an inspiring video message to gay teens. And while we’re on the topic, if you haven’t seen it yet, definitely watch Fort Worth City Councilman Joel Burns’ powerful and inspiring speech as well.
After 31 years of production, Sony has decided to stop making cassette Walkmans.
Vivian Schiller, CEO of NPR, has apologized for the way she handled the firing of Juan Williams– though not for the firing itself.
Canadian Omar Khadr, a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay, has pleaded guilty to the five terrorism charges he was accused of, as part of a plea agreement.
Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller has admitted to being reprimanded for an ethics violation while he was working for the Fairbanks government as an attorney.
And finally, in Early, TX, a man’s text to an old friend asking if she wanted to smoke some weed with him backfired– because the man apparently didn’t realize that the friend he texted was a police officer, who had him arrested.
